This page will guide you in research and design for a project about the Roman military.

Your project will be a poster about one aspect of the Roman military. It is due March 25th. See the Rubric for more details.

You have one day in the lab to research and/or start working on your design. Any other work and research is up to you.

Step One: 

All of you will read the article linked here for an overview of the Roman military.

​

Step Two: 

Please select a topic from below that seems interesting to you. Options for your research:

• specific battle formations

• military ranks and organization

• armor and weapons 

• a specific battle (include some historical context)

• a specific soldier, legion, or general​

• siege warfare

• fortifications

• animals used in war

• training soldiers

• veterans

Step Three: 

Click on the topic you chose above for an initial article to jump start your research. Take notes as you read, and be extra careful to properly quote and cite specific information.

Step Four: 

Find at least 2 additional sources for your research. They may be books, articles, or reputable websites. Steps 1-4 should take all of your time in the lab on Tuesday.

Step Five:

Collect information and plan your poster. Look carefully at the rubric below before starting so you know what is expected.

Step Six:  

Create a citation section for your poster. This can be on the back of the poster. Follow MLA format as closely as possible. I should be able to find and check your sources.

Step Seven: 

Make your poster. It should be neat! Use rulers for lines. If you don't have nice handwriting, print out information and glue it on. Include at least some visual elements, like drawn or printed pictures and diagrams.
